We recommend a 64-bit operating system and would advise you not to use a 32-bit operating system. Differences between desktop and server operation systems have not been observed so far, recommended are Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 (64-bit).
We recommend a single-processor server with four or more cores, because:
Two cores offer considerably less power at a very small cost savings.
Even considering a high data load or a high amount of cameras a single CPU (with six or eight cores) is still sufficient.
Multi-core systems are obviously more cost intensive.

Our recommendation is as follows:
CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K or better with 3.4 GHz (with at least 8,000 benchmark points)
RAM: 16 GB
Graphics cards: AMD R9 290 (4 GB DDR5) or better with the corresponding number of outputs to display 50 - 60 Mbit/s of video data on a 64-bit client. This corresponds for example to each of the following display configurations:
30 cameras, H.264, 704 x 480/704 x 576 @ 2048 kbps and 30 fps
12 cameras, H.264, 1080p @ 4096 kbps and 30 fps
12 cameras, H.264, 3MP @ 4096 kbps and 30 fps
ATI Radeon HD 5450 (2 GB RAM) can be used for small systems with up to two monitors
Monitor: For the client we recommend a monitor resolution of Full HD (1920 x 1080) or better.
The calculated bit rate is based on experience data as well as on evaluation of common camera models.
Please note that the bit rate may differ despite the fact that all cameras are set up the same way, if you use cameras from different manufacturers. Therefore, the calculated bit rate is just an average that shall give you an indication.
