We recommend a 64-bit operating system and would advise you not to use a 32-bit operating system.
Differences between desktop and server operation systems have not been observed so far.
Microsoft Windows® 7 SP1 (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, Enterprise) 32 and 64 Bit
Microsoft Windows® 8.1 (Standard, Professional, Enterprise) 32 and 64 Bit
Microsoft Windows® 10 (Pro, Enterprise) 32 and 64 Bit
Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 R2 SP1 (Standard, Enterprise) 64 Bit
Microsoft Windows Server® 2012 (Standard, Datacenter) 64 Bit
Microsoft Windows Server® 2012 R2 (Standard, Datacenter) 64 Bit (recommended)
Microsoft Windows Server® 2016 (Standard) 64 Bit
We recommend a single-processor server with four or more cores, because:
Two cores offer considerably less power at a very small cost savings.
Even considering a high data load or a high amount of cameras a single CPU (with six or eight cores) is still sufficient.
Multi-core systems are obviously more cost intensive.
Our recommendation is as follows:
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K @ 4.20GHz or better with at least 3,6 GHz
RAM: 16 GB
Graphics cards: At least 4GB DDR5 RAM, memory bandwidth at least 100 GB/sec. or better with the corresponding number of outputs to display 50 - 60 Mbit/s of video data on a 64-bit client. This corresponds for example to each of the following display configurations:
48 cameras, H.264, 320 x 240 @ 512 kbps und 25 fps
40 cameras, H.264, 640 x 480 @ 1024 kbps und 25 fps
30 cameras, H.264, 704 x 480/704 x 576 @ 2048 kbps und 25 fps
Monitor: For the client we recommend a monitor resolution of Full HD (1920 x 1080) or better.
The calculated bit rate is based on experience data as well as on evaluation of common camera models.
Please note that the bit rate may differ despite the fact that all cameras are set up the same way, if you use cameras from different manufacturers. Therefore, the calculated bit rate is just an average that shall give you an indication.
For more precise bit rate information please get in touch with the camera manufacturer of your choice.
